PAT Testing
As an employer or landlord it is obviously very important to prevent any harm coming to your customers, employees or tenants when using electrical equipment provided by your business. Our aim is to provide local businesses with a cost-effective means to ensure the safety of their customers, staff and to comply with the necessary electricity at work regulations 1989. All testing will conform with the IEE Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment 3rd Edition 2008.
Why have a PAT Test.
In the unfortunate event of an accident or fire, failure to have an up to date P.A.T. Testing programme in place could result in your insurance company refusing to pay out
What is PAT Testing.
Portable Appliance Testing is a series of inspections and electrical tests using special equipment to check the safety of each electrical item A visual inspection is carried out to check damage / faults to the: * Plug casing ( discoloration, burn marks ) * The fuse rating * Plug wiring * Appliance flex * Casing of the equipment
Then a series of electrical tests are performed, these include: * Earth continuity test * Insulation test * Polarity test * Touch leakage test * Earth bond test
These tests are performed using the very latest PrimeTest 350 testing equipment and will provide a detailed report on each of your items tested, pass/fail labels will be attached to each item of equipment along with a barcode for easy identification. A full printed test report will be sent out and a copy will be kept on computer.
Minor repairs will be carried out to faulty plugs and fuses using BSI approved stock.
How often ?
In most cases once a year, but this depends on the nature of your business. For example a commercial kitchen may need testing every 6 months, whilst an office may need testing every 1 to 5 years depending on the type and usage of equipment.
